Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDC) is a State owned corporation responsible for the delivery of public transport infrastructure projects on behalf of the NSW Government. It recently adopted 46 sustainability targets covering the following themes:
• Managing the process
• Climate change and energy
• Materials and waste
• Biodiversity and heritage
• Pollution control
• Water conservation
• Community amenity/benefit
• Value for money
Some example targets include:-
• Mandating the undertaking of carbon footprinting as part of the design process for all TIDC projects with a minimum capital value of $5 million
• Publicly communicating TIDC’s commitment to sustainability via annual reports, industry briefings and relevant events
• Maintaining ISO14001:2004 accreditation of TIDC’s Environmental Management System
• Identifying and implementing where appropriate and financially feasible to do so opportunities to improve water quality within watercourse/bodies adjacent to TIDC construction activities
• Developing sustainable design guidelines for TIDC projects.
Fil will discuss the targets in further detail, provide an update on the organisation’s early progress against the targets and provide an outline of the framework underpinning the sustainable design guidelines.
